GRACE Communications Foundation is proud to support Farm Aid’s excellent work advocating for family farmers.
The GRACE team is on the #Road2FarmAid Saturday the 21st in Saratoga Springs, NY. You've heard of Farm Aid, right? Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp held the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Since then Dave Matthews joined the group and over the last 28 years, they have raised an impressive $43 million!
Beyond hosting the day-long concert every year (this year's sold out show has a lineup including Jack Johnson, Amos Lee, Jamey Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Sasha Dobson and of course Willie, Neil, John, Dave and more), Farm Aid focuses on serious issues surrounding the family farming community. For 28 years, they have provided immediate and effective support services to farm families in crisis through their hotline, 1-800-FARM-AID. They are always helping to grow the Good Food movement and taking action to change the system, especially through their online Farmer Resource Network and Farm Aid's Action Center.
On the lighter (but no less important) side, Farm Aid also encourages supporters to buy food from family farms. They do this through their informative and fun HOMEGROWN.org website and follow through at the concert with their HOMEGROWN Concessions, which feature good food from family farms. I'm pretty sure this means that we will be eating very well at the show!
As for us, GRACE staffers will be participating in the HOMEGROWN Village, a place for food and farm groups from across the country to come together and exhibit their work and to give concertgoers a chance to get their hands dirty and dig into the Good Food Movement through interactive experiences. Our booth will be spreading #FarmerLove! We will share our love notes for farmers from their biggest fans at the concert. Look for pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@GRACElinks)... and even if you aren't there, show some love that day with a picture and message tagged #FarmerLove! American farmers have been through a lot in recent decades – the least we can do is show our support of their hard work every day.
If you can't be at the show, celebrate #FarmerLove at home! Follow #FarmerLove, #Road2FarmAid and #FarmAid2013 on all your social media channels... and watch a live webcast on farmaid.org starting at 5pm EDT on September 21. You can even start listening live on Willie Nelson's SiriusXM channel, Willie's Roadhouse (56), beginning at 2pm EDT.
